Nature
Living on the fringes of Dartmoor, and having spent much time on the water in his youth, nature has fed into many aspects of Nicholas's life and work. Central to this is a principle of stewardship, helping people to experience and understand the importance of the natural world and fostering a wider duty of care. He leads walks for his local church, holds a First Aid qualification, and is working towards his Hill and Moorland Leader award. He has developed mapping work for a Dartmoor landowner, producing firebreak, vegetation, livestock and elevation surveys using a blend of modern-day open-source GIS tooling and traditional surveying methods, skills that feed equally into his coding practice. When time allows, he can often be found wild swimming off the Devon coast. Stewardship, in all its forms, runs as a quiet thread through much of what Nicholas does.
